As we move through life, we constantly find ourselves in different spaces. Spaces, whether it be personal or professional, often provide a framework for movement. In essence, spaces and movement share an extremely strong connection. As a Certified Clinical Sociologist, with special interest in sociotherapy, organizational consultancy, employee wellness, and group facilitation, I’m regularly confronted with inflexible organizational spaces. When considering employee wellness, inflexible spaces cannot facilitate healthy movement.

The “we-centric” space, often overlooked and portrayed as unnecessary, can bridge the gap between employee wellness and organizational productivity. What is this “we-centric” space? The word itself depicts an image of shared togetherness and collective relatedness. In other words, the “we-centric” space is all about finding related-togetherness within an organization so that movement can be healthy, not only for the employee, but also for the organization as an entity.
In practice, when considering individual wellness and organizational expectations, I’ve realised that effective communication and open dialogue can stimulate a “we-centric” space for both the employer and the employee. We live in a time where employee wellness can no longer be subject to rigid policies and distant promises. The need to integrate “we-centric” workplace spaces is of vital importance, not only for individual wellness, but also for organizational success.
