Nevertheless, certain circumstances may warrant disclosure to legal authorities or designated individuals: Immediate notification to law enforcement is mandatory if the therapist suspects abuse towards a child, dependent adult, or elder, or if there's awareness of domestic abuse. In cases where an individual poses a credible threat of severe bodily harm to others, therapists are obligated to report it to the police. Should a client express intentions of self-harm or suicidal thoughts, the therapist will make efforts to address and resolve these issues within the session. However, if concerns persist or the client is uncooperative, additional steps may be taken to ensure their safety.
